Our Story

Sullivan and Hayes met in basic training in 1970. Both came home from Vietnam in the early '70s. Sullivan's hands wouldn't stop shaking, so he started shaping hats — one block at a time until they were steady again. Hayes found him in a garage workshop in Columbus and picked up the finishing work.

One shaped. One finished. Same two guys. Same process.

We opened Sullivan & Hayes Hatters in 1984. For 42 years, we've made hats the same way — by hand, with the same commitment to country and craft that brought us home.

Now, as America turns 250 in 2026, we're closing this chapter with our final sale before retirement.

Every hat represents 42 years of American craftsmanship. Once they're gone, that's it.
